Nicola Austin
About Nicola
Nicola Austin is a Neonatal Paediatrician involved in all aspects on newborn care and has special interests in the neurodevelopmental outcomes of preterm and sick newborns as well as the assessment of cardiorespiratory function and improving nutrition. She co-lead the development of the Periviability Consensus Statement for care of mother and baby 2019, and lead the introduction of the Newborn Observation Chart and Newborn Early Warning score throughout New Zealand under the NE Taskforce with ACC. She is a Clinical Associate Professor (2011) of the University of Otago. Her research has involved a large number of multicentre studies advancing neonatal care and outcomes. She has been part of the Very Preterm Cohort Study since soon after its inception, and has been involved from 1 to 17 years which she led. Nicola is now the Chair of the New Zealand Child and Youth Clinical Network Governance Group and on the RACP - Paediatrics and Child Health Division Council.
Steering Group
The Carosika Collaborative Steering Group is a transdisciplinary group of individuals passionate about preterm birth and achieving equity. The Group was established in 2020 and membership is by invitation aiming for inclusion of whānau and all other key stakeholder groups. The Steering Group provides direction, oversight, coordination and support to Carosika Collaborative initiatives and has been responsible for developing the Carosika Collaborative five-year Strategic Kete.
